In almost every country in the world, there are fairy stories..and fairies which belong to particular countries. Fairies, it's believed are a race somewhere between humans and spirits. It is said they live as our neighors, but because for the most part humankind do not keep their end of Earth's guardianship, fairies ignore us..miffed that we have let them down.

Fairies tend to look at humans as boastful breakers of promises. But you can make friends with them. Simply leaving them gifts of little bits of your first harvest will endear you to them. Never leave meat, though..they hate that and will be furious.

* Things to avoid the badly intentioned fairies are: get a cat. Cats, being the traditional helpers of witches are very sensitive to fairy energy and will sense and chase away the pesky kind. Also some herbs protect against fairy magic such as white hawthorn gathered at Beltane (beginning of May), in Wales it's gorse bushes around the house and in Scotland, bunches of heather are hung for protection.
* To attract fairies to your home, each night set out a bowl of fresh water on your counter..not too deep. Fairies are very clean and like to wash their young.
